about

Silk Royal's 24th release features one of the label's most distinguished contributors. Ad Brown. Hot off an extended DJ tour throughout Asia and Australia, Ad has also continued to garner momentum for his production work this past year, including recent releases on Armada, Enhanced, and Intuition. The title cut here, "Motion," showcases Ad's talent for crafting clubby, yet sophisticated progressive anthems. A driving rhythm and rolling bassline establish a furious tone early, as subtle melodic touches and ethereal atmospheric pads begin to creep into the mix. We also get a few teaser stabs of the defining motif in the track: a hauntingly beautiful vocal sample that appears at defining transitions in the song, including the gorgeous breakdown. The drop following the main break is also a tremendous, peak-hour moment for the clubber set.

The first of two remixers involved in the release is by young American phenom Audien, who has very quickly captured the attention of the international progressive and trance communities. Typically known for uplifting and melodic peak-hour progressive, Audien has chosen, instead, to center this 'Unconscious' mix on a club-killing tech-house groove. Yet, just when you think that the track is heading into even techier terrain, it begins to deconstruct and make way for a more trance-inspired main break, featuring roaring chords and the poignant main vocal theme of the original.

KhoMha, who recently has released various top 100 hits on Beatport in progressive house, offers a similarly clubby interpretation in his signature prog-tech style. The very talented Colombian artist captures the darker undertones of the original and establishes a rather wicked bassline groove early. In the main break, the vocal sample soars above a classic prog bassline progression, as some of the more subtle melodic hooks from the original are reborn as resonant lead elements.
